Vocabulary translated, predictions never made.
We explain what market and financial terms actually mean. That's the entire mission — no products, no calls attached.
Started from a wall of unexplained terms.
Market Decoder began in Schaffhausen as a side project among finance writers who noticed how much financial media assumes readers already know terms like basis points, yield curve or market capitalization, without ever defining them plainly.
We wanted a place that fills that gap directly — a plain-language reference sitting alongside the news, not another source of predictions.
Three principles behind everything we publish.
Always free
Every guide and glossary entry on this site is free to read and will stay that way. We do not gate content behind sign-ups or paid tiers.
Definitions, not predictions
We explain what terms and mechanics mean. We never forecast market movements or recommend specific securities.
No hidden incentives
Market Decoder does not accept sponsorships from brokers, fund providers or financial product companies. Nothing here is paid placement.
Working out of Schaffhausen, writing for a wider audience.
Our editorial team is based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. While some examples reflect the Swiss context, the underlying vocabulary — index, yield, volatility — is used broadly across markets, and we keep terminology general wherever we can.
If something reads as specific to one market or regulatory regime, we try to flag it clearly within the article itself.
A note on scope: Market Decoder does not offer paid services of any kind, does not manage investments on anyone's behalf, and does not provide licensed financial, legal, tax or investment advice. Nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy, hold or sell any security, or a forecast of market movement. Everything published here is general education. For decisions specific to your situation, speak with a qualified, licensed professional.
